Author Information Genelyn G. Madjos  from the Institute of the  Department of Biological Sciences, College of Science and Mathematics, Western Mindanao State University, Zamboanga City, Philippines Journal Name Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences | JBES Abstract Nickel miningposed a serious environmental problem due to run-offs and tailings. To address this, current techniques include excavation, chemical stabilization and soil flushing, but these methods are costly and impractical. One of the ecologically accepted treatments is phytoremediation. With the capacity of Centella asiatica (gotu kola) to thrive in moist soils with domestic effluents, this present study sought to evaluate its phytoremediation potential by employing an experimental design with three replicat...

In this research study, batch experiments were conducted using thermally activated Eichornia crassipes roots as an adsorbent for the removal a basic dye, malachite green, from aqueous solutions. Effect of operating variables i.e. pH, sorbent dosage, dye concentration and contact time was studied in an agitated batch adsorber. Results showed that maximum dye uptake was observed at an optimum pH 7 .There was no significant difference in dye concentration remaining when the pH increased from 5-10. Dye remo...

Genetic mechanisms of yield related morphological markers response

Image
Genetic mechanisms of yield related morphological markers response to increase grain yield in different environment of hexaploid wheat Wheat is an imperative cereal of the world that plays a remarkable role in meeting the food requirements of human population. Improvement in yield relies upon the identification of genetically superior and  suitable genotypes and their exploitation. A 5 × 5 diallel cross using  five wheat varieties/lines namely Aas-11, Millat-11, SH-95, 9272 and 9276 was carried out to examine the genetics of yield and yield related morphological traits. All traits shown high level of significance after analysis of variance. Variety SH-95 proved to be the best general combiner for plant height, spike length, spike density, number of grains per spike. Cross 9272 x Milla-11 was the best combiner for number of grains per spike and 1000-grain weight.SH-95 x 9272 proved to be best specific combiner for flag leaf area, 1000-grain weight and grain yield per p...

The effects of using canola oil with vitamin E on performance and carcass traits of broilers | JBES

Image
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of using canola oil with vitamin E on carcass traits of broilers. This study was carried out as 3×2 factorial experiment with 3 levels of canola oil (control, 2.00 and 4.00 percent) and 2 levels of vitamin E (0 and 150 mg/kg) in 6 treatments, 3 replicates and 14 birds in each replicate in a completely randomized design.
